About Us

The Red Thread Collective

The Red Thread Collective was created for a simple reason:
connection has become harder to find and more important than ever.

We live in a time where it’s easier than ever to stay in touch,
but harder than ever to feel truly connected.

Connection can be created intentionally, accessibly, and at scale. Our model combines community-led experiences with a mission-driven clothing brand to make that possible.

Mission

To increase connection and a sense of belonging as forms of preventative mental health care through accessible, authentic, real-life experiences.

Vision

A future where every person, regardless of income, background, or life stage, has access to meaningful relationships and a community where they feel seen, supported, and valued.

The loneliness epidemic

Loneliness has emerged as one of the most pressing public health challenges in the United States, with significant consequences for both mental and physical health.

Research shows that social isolation is linked to:

29%

Increased risk of heart disease

50%

Increased risk of dementia

30%

Increased risk of stroke

15

Cigarettes per day (Comparable risk)

Beyond physical health, individuals experiencing loneliness are significantly more likely to report anxiety, depression, frequent mental distress, and a lower sense of life satisfaction.

While loneliness affects people across all demographics, it is especially common among working-age adults navigating major life transitions, relocation, and increasingly digital lifestyles as well as low-income individuals.

Modern life has introduced additional pressures; remote work, social media, and reduced participation in traditional community spaces that make real, in-person, connection harder to find.

And yet, most existing non-profit systems focus on treatment after people are already struggling.

Few focus on something simpler:
creating opportunities for connection before isolation becomes something deeper.

The story behind the thread

Across cultures and generations, there is a story of an invisible red thread, one that quietly connects us to the people we are meant to meet. It stretches across distance, time, and circumstance, reminding us that connection is not random. Even in moments of isolation, that thread is always there, linking us to others in ways we may not yet see or understand. This ancient story captures a truth we hold at the heart of The Red Thread Collective: that no one is meant to navigate life alone.

The Red Thread Collective brings this idea to life through our nonprofit clothing brand and community-driven programming. Our apparel creates a sense of connection with each other, while our community-led gatherings create opportunities for real, in-person relationships. By empowering individuals to bring people together and participate in meaningful experiences, we transform connection into belonging, fostering mental well-being, resilience, and the kind of human relationships that are increasingly rare in today’s world. Every piece we create and every event we support strengthens the threads that link us all.

How our model works

The Red Thread Collective empowers individuals called Thread Leaders to create community-led gatherings in their own neighborhoods. Through small grants, support, and education resources from our nonprofit, people bring others together for creative, interest-based experiences like art workshops, board game nights, neighborhood dinners, or photography walks.

This community-led approach allows us to reach more people, celebrate local creativity, and foster authentic connection through shared interests. Every gathering helps educate participants on what it takes to build connection, strengthens human relationships, increases belonging, and helps prevent social isolation before it evolves into mental health challenges.

What this creates

A wide range of experiences, from creative workshops and neighborhood dinners to group activities and community gatherings, designed to make connection feel natural and accessible.

This model allows us to scale efficiently while ensuring that each event reflects the culture and needs of the community it serves.

Measuring Our Impact

Every gathering hosted through The Red Thread Collective strengthens human connection and builds belonging, two critical factors in preventing social isolation and supporting mental well-being. While we track key outcomes to understand our reach and effectiveness, the real impact is felt in the moments people connect, create, and belong.

More than clothing

Our apparel is designed to do more than look good, it represents a belief: that connection matters. Starting with the connections we have to our own neighborhoods and cities we grew up and currently reside in.

Every purchase directly funds tangible, real life, gatherings that help to strengthen mental health in our communities. Unlike other brands that donate a portion of profits, 100% of ours are reinvested into our mission.

What we’re building

The Red Thread Collective began in Tacoma, Washington, but the need for connection exists everywhere.

Our long-term vision is to build a scalable, community-led network of belonging expanding across cities and regions while staying rooted in local communities.

Because connection should not depend on where you live, what you earn, or what stage of life you’re in.

Building Connection, Preventing Crisis

Every gathering, every conversation, every connection strengthens the fabric of community. Our goal is simple but powerful:

More Community connection
Greater Belonging
Less Loneliness
Stronger Mental Health

Through our events, apparel, and programs, we’re helping people build real connections before loneliness escalates into a mental health crisis.
