Why Every gift matters
1. You create real human connection
Your support funds community-led gatherings where people meet, interact, and build meaningful relationships in real life, not just online. These moments of connection are the foundation for something deeper: belonging.
2. You help prevent, not just respond to, mental health challenges
Most systems focus on treatment after people are already struggling. Your contribution supports a different approach; creating connection before loneliness turns into anxiety, depression, or isolation. This is preventative mental health in action.
3. You make belonging accessible to everyone
Every event is free or “pay what you can,” removing financial barriers and expanding access to community. Your gift ensures that connection isn’t limited by income, background, or life circumstance.
Help us end the loneliness epidemic
Direct Gifts Fuel Our Mission.
Your support bridges the gap between isolation and belonging. Every direct gift ensures our gatherings remain accessible to all, providing the resources needed for community events that eliminate social isolation and strengthen mental health. By giving directly, you enable us to host consistent, high-quality experiences that prioritize human connection and mental well-being.
The Red Thread Collective is a component fund of Greater Tacoma Community Foundation (GTCF). As our fiscal sponsor, GTCF allows us to accept tax-deductible charitable contributions while we build our organization. Your donation will be securely processed through GTCF’s website and your gift will directly support the work of The Red Thread Collective.

Measuring What Matters
Core Philosophy
Our approach is grounded in established research on social connectedness and belonging, while adapted for real-world community settings. We focus on a simple but powerful idea:
connection leads to belonging—and belonging supports mental well-being.
We are at the beginning of building something new. The Red Thread Collective is designed as a long-term, scalable model for addressing social disconnection not just through intention, but through measurable outcomes. As an early supporter, you are helping shape and validate a model that has the potential to redefine how connection and belonging are built at scale and how we look at tackling the metal health epidemic in this country.
The Model
We measure impact across three key layers:
Connection
(Immediate Outcome)
Are people actually meeting and forming new relationships?
Belonging
(Intermediate Outcome)
Do participants feel included, valued, and part of something?
Continued Engagement
(Behavioral Outcome)
Does the experience lead to ongoing relationships, repeat participation, or new community leadership?
Early Benchmarks
During our pilot phase, we are establishing baseline metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform scale. Early indicators of impact include:
How We Collect Data
We use simple, research-informed pre- and post-event surveys, combined with participant feedback and event-level insights, to track outcomes while minimizing friction. This allows us to gather meaningful data while keeping the experience human and accessible.
A majority of participants meeting someone new
Participants reporting increased feelings of connection and belonging
Strong intent to return or participate again
Emerging interest in hosting and leading future events
Year one is a learning phase but it is also a foundation.
The data we gather now will shape how this model grows, scales, and creates impact in communities beyond Tacoma. By supporting The Red Thread Collective at this stage, you are not just funding events you are helping build and validate a new approach to preventing social isolation and strengthening mental health through connection.
